Anne Ramsay is an accomplished American actress and writer whose versatile career has spanned film, television and theater. Known for her sharp comedic timing and dramatic range, she has created memorable characters in beloved comedies, acclaimed dramas, science-fiction productions and horror films.

Ramsay is especially well known to movie fans for portraying Helen Haley in the 1992 baseball classic A League of Their Own. Helen is the strong and spirited first baseman for the Rockford Peaches, the pioneering women’s professional baseball team formed during World War II. Directed by Penny Marshall, the beloved film featured an extraordinary ensemble cast that included Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna.

That same year, Ramsay began one of her most recognizable television roles as Lisa Stemple on the hit NBC sitcom Mad About You. As Jamie Buchman’s outspoken, unpredictable and frequently chaotic older sister, Ramsay became a scene-stealing favorite throughout the show’s original seven-season run. She later returned as Lisa for the 2019 revival, reuniting with Paul Reiser, Helen Hunt and other members of the original cast.

Ramsay has also delivered memorable performances in numerous feature films. Her credits include Class Action, Critters 4, Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes, Woman on Top, The Human Contract, Tanner Hall and Bombshell, in which she portrayed television journalist Greta Van Susteren. Horror audiences know her for her acclaimed performance as Sarah Logan in the found-footage supernatural thriller The Taking of Deborah Logan. She later appeared in the atmospheric thriller Brooklyn 45.

Her extensive television résumé includes appearances on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Dharma & Greg, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The L Word, Six Feet Under, House, Ghost Whisperer, Castle and Wizards of Waverly Place. She played defense attorney Ellen Wolf on Dexter, Dr. Brenda Marshall on Hawthorne and Nora Underwood on The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
